This day and age people tend to use mobile phones for taking their pictures, however whilst they are good for the social networks they are what I would state as being just for fun and there is not really too much in the way of adjustment for the variety of different lighting sources, so you are dependent on how good the processor is regarding the way it interprets the information received.
Dedicated cameras I.e. compact digital to digital SLR cameras are always the better option, Kodak have digital cameras that will upload onto Facebook and many other sites with much better quality, some of the cameras on the market today have really excellent utilities for compensating poor light conditions that alleviate grainy picture such as the Canon Ixus 220 HS but to name one, in fact most of their range have DIGIC processors that handle poor lighting conditions exceptionally well.
Once you have learned the basics of your camera you can usually add that little bit more adjustment to create some astounding photographs, and now you will find that cameras aid you in the correct settings as the controls usually on the top of the camera can be set for portrait, photographing children, night scenes, sandy beaches in bright sunlight etc.
I find although the little compact digital cameras are excellent in their convenience and picture clarity but I much prefer Bridge cameras these types although not a digital SLR do afford you great wide angle to telephoto ranges I.E. 26-624mm. most are typically up to 24 x zoom, some even higher, these are stunning specifications. What is more there is the added bonus of not having to open a camera bag to get the next size lens and they can be carried around much like the compact camera.
